Alisha Marie Vlog Camera and Gear Setup for YouTube

Back in 2008, no one knew who Alisha Marie was, except for the handful of subscribers she had on her early YouTube channel. Today, she’s followed by over five million people, all eager to watch the latest update on her vlog. Known for her hilarious series called “Roommate Wars” – where she competes with her sister, Ashley, on who makes the best prank – Alisha Marie is easily one of the most popular comedy and lifestyle YouTubers out there, putting her name on the same group as Casey Neistat. Even so, she started her vlog by uploading makeup tutorials, which she had stopped doing after she found out that her audience loved more her videos where she showed how she went through her daily life.

While you can’t exactly replicate her video concept and adopt it for your own vlog – originality is the most important thing if you wish to have a fair share on YouTube stardom – nobody keeps you from getting a sneak peak on her vlog camera and equipment. In fact, the easiest way to create professional looking videos spawned by a successful vlogger, like Alisha Marie, is by finding out what camera she uses. Below, you can discover three different cameras that Alisha Marie personally picks out to handle her video production. Along with that, you can also check out the supporting tools she uses regularly to help with both the filming and editing of her videos.

Alisha Marie Cameras

There are three cameras that Alisha Marie uses to get the footage for her vlog. Two of them are DSLRs and one is point-and-shoot camera. Here are they:

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

Canon EOS 5D Mark IVCanon EOS 5D Mark IV is a full frame camera, meaning you’ll get a good deal of boost in video quality when using it to shoot indoor where the lighting condition is often less than ideal. Even better, it’s one of the view DSLRs from Canon capable of recording 4K video. This bulky camera also offers ports for both microphone and headphone, so you have total control in the audio department. The catch, though, is it’s extremely expensive. Value-wise, I believe it’s not the best vlogging camera, especially if you’re just getting started. Still, if your pocket is deep from the get go, Canon 5D Mark IV might deliver the right quality you want in your footage.

Canon EOS 70D

Canon EOS 70DCanon EOS 70D might be less advanced than 5D Mark IV above, but if you’re looking for the best camera for YouTube that delivers the best bang for your buck, you shouldn’t look elsewhere. For its cost, this mid-range DSLR thoroughly blows the competition out of the water. Featuring Dual Pixel AF, it focuses and tracks a moving subject extremely well – not to say automatically too. All you need is tap the display on the rear and select which subject you want the camera to lock its focus. Speaking of the LCD display, Canon EOS 70D is also a camera with flip screen. Such will allow you to create selfie video easily. With Full HD 1080p resolution, I trust this is the best vlog camera for the money.

Canon PowerShot G7X

Canon PowerShot G7 XCanon PowerShot G7 X joins the likes of Sony RX100 series and Panasonic Lumix LX100 in the premium market of point-and-shoot camera with big one-inch sensor. It’s still smaller than even a cropped sensor camera like the 70D above, but it performs better than general compact shooters. The G7 X in particular sports a flip screen and wide-aperture fixed lens that can be set to open up to f/1.8. It doesn’t offer the goodness of 4K video recording like its competition, but it does allow footage to be captured in Full HD resolution using high frame rate up to 60fps. All in all, Canon PowerShot G7 X is a fine point-and-shoot camera for making YouTube video and good many vloggers use it too, including Roman Atwood, Bethany Mota, and Andrea Russett.

Accessories

Alisha Marie’s vlog setup also includes a few supporting equipment like microphone, headphone, and laptop that helps her edit, cut, and mix the footage she has recorded. Check them out below!

Rode VideoMic Pro

Rode VideoMic ProThe VideoMic Pro is an update to the original camera-mounted shotgun microphone by Rode, offering shorter tube and overall lighter design. What makes so many vloggers, including Alisha Marie, love this mic is it’s a plug-and-play device. You just have to attach it on your camera’s shoe and hook it up via the 3.5mm mic input. The mount is equipped with shock absorber to compress the “click-clack” mechanical noise as you move your camera around. Controls – with which you can set the mic gain – are located at the back of the mic. There’s a switch too, to activate the high-pass filter that enables it to exclude any sound with frequency lower than 80Hz or 100Hz. This is extremely useful to keep the wind noise from being picked up by the mic. Rode VideoMic Pro is simple one of the best microphone for YouTubers.

Apple MacBook Pro 13

Macbook Air 13-inchTo edit her footage, Alisha Marie uses the lightweight and slim Macbook Pro 13 with Apple’s video editing software, Final Cut Pro X – the same workstation used by Zoella. The laptop comes with various configurations, but if you’re going to use it mainly to fine-tune your video, the minimum spec you need is 6GB of RAM and Intel Core i5 processor. That should keep the machine responsive, even when you edit a resource-hungry 4K video. Another thing to consider is the storage. Apple Macbook Pro 13 offers a minimum 252GB of internal hard drive. That’s barely sufficient to save a handful of Full HD videos. So, unless you work with external drive as well, you may want to up the spec to 512GB or even 1TB. Editing high quality videos take a whole lot more space that you’d ever thought.

Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphone

Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphone

Alisha Marie doesn’t use Bose QuietComfort 35 as her main vlogging arsenal, but she is seen in one of her videos using the silver version of this headphone – paired with her smartphone – to listen to music. Wireless, you can’t use it to monitor the audio capture as you film your video because no camera is equipped with Bluetooth or NFC. Still, the headphone is made to be usable with a wire as well, and that’s how you connect it to a camera. The noise cancelling feature on this headphone is simply outstanding. Wind and crowd noise is entirely isolated. It’s equipped with a microphone too. The price tag is a bit hefty for a wireless headphone, but I believe it lives up to its promises.
