Broadcast Studio Steadicam Workshop

This intensive 2- or 3-day workshop brings training directly into your broadcast facility. The hosting facility provides an unused studio space or other large space to be used for the core instruction. Access to hallways and stairs is a must. White board /easel and a dvd playback unit are also made available for use during the class.

Special attention is given to hardware and techniques unique to shooting live television with a Steadicam. Accessories are brought in and demonstrated. Teleprompter for Steadicam and remote shooting situations are also covered. In the case of a 3-day workshop, the third day is spent on a studio floor where the Steadicam is put to use.

Through access to state of the art broadcast cameras, we insure that the Broadcast Steadicam Operator student is fully versed in the technology interfaces available. Which camera, which signal, which monitor and connectors are all vital topics which are covered in great depth.

Shots are designed with specific shows in mind. Sometimes a small menu of potential shots is put together to offer to directors and show producers. In the case of a 3-day workshop, the evaluative Final Test shot entails performing a series of shots designed to be used on existing programming. Students have to incorporate the dynamic of being one of several, or in the case of large live televised events, one of many cameras. Integrating shots and choreography of camera placement are examined.

The hosting facility provides a standard hand-held camera and plate for each Steadicam used. The ratio is one rig for each three students. The Hosting facility is responsible for the shipping/insuring of loaner Steadicams supplied by The Tiffen Company, as well as providing a secured space for storage overnight. ( Typically the normal equipment cage/room is used).
